铝合金和玻璃纤维是目前生产游艇最普遍被采用的材料。两者的特性比较如下:
1.航行成本:相同的尺寸和结构强度下,铝合金船的重量大约只有玻璃纤维船的一半。较轻的重量,让铝合金船比玻璃纤维船更省油。
2.操控性与稳定度:由于铝合金船的重量较轻,因此铝合金船在机动性和操控性上相对优异。相反的,玻璃纤维船因为重量较重,因此耐波性较佳,在浪况不佳的情况下相对较稳定。
3.外观与适航性:除了科建铝船生产的 morningstar boats 之外,一般的铝船都是用一片片的平板拼凑起来,并用焊接或铆钉将钣件组合起来,因此在外观上和流体特性上都不如玻璃纤维船。玻璃纤维船可以拥有亮丽的外观和优异的流体特性,则是因为玻璃布可以任意的变形贴附在船模上,布与布之间再用胶水结合。因为可塑性大,因此玻璃船在造型上和适航性上都比传统的铝船优异。但是科建铝船已经藉由采用金属成型技术让新一代铝船也可以拥有玻璃纤维船才具备的外观和适航性。
4.移动性:由于水中泊位有限、停泊和保养成本高、加上对于机动用船需求上升,因此越来越多的船是停在陆地上,要用时再用汽车拉着船到要用船的水域。铝合金船因为重量轻,因此比玻璃纤维船更容易上下岸,也更方便用汽车拖曳。
5.保养成本:铝合金与空气接触会在表面形成一层坚硬耐腐蚀的保护层,这种特性让铝合金船具备某种程度的自我修复能力,一般的刮伤或碰撞都不需要特别的照顾和修复。铝合金船体的喷漆涂装并不是为了保护铝合金,而是因为美观。相对的,玻璃纤维船就需要细心的呵护与照顾。
6.使用寿命:铝合金船的寿命比玻璃纤维船的使用年限还要长得多。由于玻璃纤维船的使用年限较短、内伤又往往无法由外观上看出来,因此先进国家,包括台湾,对于玻璃纤维船的进口都有船龄上的限制,而铝合金船就没有这种限制。
7.环境保护:铝合金可以完全回收,回收时以公斤卖钱,对于个人和环境都有好处。玻璃纤维因为无法回收,因此销毁时,船主必须付钱请人处理。目前除了与垃圾一起掩埋之外,就是研磨成粉后加入柏油中铺在马路上。
8.二手价格:由于保养容易、船龄长、内外伤容易检视,因此铝合金船的折旧较少,二手价格比玻璃纤维船高。
铝合金基本上分为七个种类,其中只有5000和6000系列的海洋级铝合金是被国际认可,可以用在船舰上。其他的铝材,例如铝窗用2000和3000系列铝合金,因为耐盐性和耐候性等能力不足是被严禁使用在必须与海水接触的船舰上。
